Best Plants for the Bathroom

Best Plants for the Bathroom

Let me ask you this, does your bathroom feel luxurious and inviting? Or is it a little stark, boring and bland? If the latter statement rings true for you, then plants are what your bathroom is craving!

Not only do plants soften a room and create the oasis you long for, but some can also absorb moisture too!  Careful placements of plants in the bathroom, can add a touch of luxury to your space and create the perfect environment for you to fully relax whilst soaking in your bath, releasing the stresses of the day - who doesn't want that?!

You do, however, have to be careful with what plants you place in your bathroom as it's not a room that all plants will naturally thrive in. Bathrooms are typically your most humid room in the house, and they often have lower light levels.  You therefore need to pick plants that thrive in humidity and adapt to lower light.

I'll cover off our perfect plant picks for the bathroom, but before I do, you may be wondering where exactly to place them. If your bathroom (like many), doesn't have abundant space, you could place compact plants on your vanity or on top of your toilet. These can look gorgeous in a crisp white ceramic pot, or in a small basket to add a little more texture to your room. If you really want to add a statement in your small space, you could hang a trailing plant from a hook in the ceiling, a hook on the wall, or place it on a window where it can naturally cascade down your wall, adding instant greenery.

So now you know where to place them, let me share with you, our top bathroom plant picks!

Aglaonemas: We love Aglaonema's for their easy-care nature and colourful leaves and they make fantastic bathroom plants. Aglaonema's love humidity and they're anything but fussy. They adapt well to lower light levels and look super cute on your vanity, the side of your bath or on top of your toilet. These are perfect for a white bathroom to add just a little pop of colour.

Peace LilyYou really can't go wrong with the humble Peace Lily with its lush green leaves it will be sure to bring the outside into your bathroom. Place an established Lily in a small basket on the floor to create a resort feel to your bathroom.

PothosThere is always room for a trailing plant in a bathroom, even if it's a compact space. These statement plants adapt well to lower light, love the humidity that your bathroom creates and are relatively fast growing. Hang them or place them on a windowsill or perch them on the side of your vanity or toilet to instantly soften your space.

Peperomias: These relatively compact plants, can adapt to lower light levels and the texture of their leaves, can add much needed texture to your bathroom too. They also love humidity, making them the perfect bathroom plant. Peperomias look great grouped together and won't outgrow your small space.

Calatheas: Now if you find your calatheas crispy and cranky, then perhaps you need to introduce them to your bathroom, as this room naturally has higher humidity and often, lower light. Calatheas grow under the canopies of large trees in their natural habitat and therefore don't like a lot of light. You will often see browning edges on your calatheas if they aren't getting enough humidity. This is a sign that your plant needs more, and your bathroom might provide the perfect solution.

Bathrooms are often neglected, yet it's often the room that greets you every morning and sets you up for your day. Make it a space that delights you and that you enjoy getting ready in every morning and let it also relax you from your daily woes, every single night. Plants make people happy, so why not start and end your day, in a happy space! See our top picks for your bathroom below.
